Why Choose

Guy Tucker Patents?

Experience

After issuing and rejecting hundreds of patents as a Patent Examiner, I left the Patent Office to start helping applicants navigate the system. I have worked in law firms and in-house legal departments, and I have seen it all. In addition to building world-wide patent portfolios, I have participated in licensing deals and negotiations, diligence, patent litigation, appeals, interferences, and oppositions. These experiences form the foundation from which I can strategically craft your patent application.

Focus on the Small Business

I have set up my practice to primarily help small businesses and independent inventors obtain quality patent protection. I understand that capital is a resource a small business cannot afford to waste, so I make sure we do not spend your money unwisely or at least without fully understanding all of the risks. In addition, with my knowledge of how the system works, I have set up a fee structure designed to minimize your costs, especially early on, while still protecting your intellectual property.

Fixed-fee Pricing

Hourly billing can leave you with angst and uncertainty. To help with that, I try to provide all of my services on a fixed-fee basis according to a detailed fee schedule so there are no surprises. I also offer a free one-hour consultation to discuss the process, the costs, and some general strategies for your specific situation and needs. It is a complicated system, and there are many misconceptions. I enjoy sharing my knowledge to help educate inventors, investors, and other stake holders.

Protecting Your Intellectual Property.

After a successful career in the San Francisco Bay Area helping multi-billion-dollar corporations build massive patent portfolios, I decided to pull up roots, move to the country, down-size, and start putting my skills and knowledge to work for small businesses and independent inventors. It is hard work and challenging but very rewarding personally. I enjoy helping my clients understand the system, and there is nothing more satisfying than making the call to let a client know they have been awarded a patent.

Mission

My mission is to provide high-quality patent services at a fraction of the price of a large law firm with a focus on the financial needs and situations of the client. Obtaining quality patent protection is not inexpensive, but it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Goal

My goal is to provide small businesses and independent inventors with an alternative that saves them from the temptation of using inexperienced representatives or trying to patent something on their own. When it comes to patent protection, you reap what you sow. The steps you take early in the patenting process are critical to a successful outcome. Fixing mistakes in a Patent Application is an expense endeavor and an uphill battle.

Core Values

My value to you.

Honesty

I promise to always give you an honest assessment of your likelihoods of success and the risks associated with all decisions. I will never pressure you into a course of action that is not in your best interest. I’m also happy to take risks with you, as long as you fully understand those risks.

Transparency

I believe in transparency on all matters. My fee schedule is fixed and non-negotiable and is the same for all clients. I do not perform any work that is not explicitly authorized by you and fully understood by you. I do not submit any work on your behalf without your approval and input.

Communication

It is important to me that you fully understand the patenting process. This is the best way for you to contribute in a meaningful way. I take the time to explain the important details before an application is filed, during the prosecution, and after a patent has been granted.

Affordability

Patents are expensive, but I do my best through volume and low overhead to make them as affordable as possible. To do this, I rely on the inventor’s help and resources. I do not ever skimp or cut corners on quality. While my patent services are not cheap, they are an extraordinary value.

Client Satisfaction

While there are no guarantees of a successful conclusion of any patent matter, I take the time to make sure my clients understand their chances. All services are pay-as-you-go without any future commitments. Unless agreed to in advance, no payments are due before a work is completed.
